Epyr to Deploy France's First Industrial Thermal Energy Storage Unit with WEPA in Troyes

A first-of-a-kind project with the potential to transform industrial decarbonization, set to begin operations in the coming months.

Epyr to Deploy France's First Industrial Thermal Energy Storage Unit with WEPA in Troyes

Troyes, October 2025 — The startup Epyr and the WEPA Group announce the construction of the first decarbonized thermal energy storage unit in France, dedicated to the electrification of industrial heat at WEPA's Troyes site.

This partnership represents a significant milestone in the decarbonization of the paper industry. WEPA's facility requires continuous high-temperature steam for paper drying and processing — a process traditionally powered by natural gas.

Our thermal battery will replace a significant portion of the facility's gas consumption, providing clean, reliable heat from renewable electricity. The system will be installed and operational within months, with zero disruption to WEPA's production schedule.

This deployment demonstrates that industrial heat decarbonization is not just technically feasible — it's commercially attractive. Through our Heat-as-a-Service model, WEPA benefits from predictable energy costs and significant CO₂ reductions without any upfront capital investment.
